Hey ladies,
i WFH and have done for nearly five years.
I know there are others on BR who do too, and many of you who will need to start in the coming weeks so thought I'd open a place for people to share tips and ask questions.
my top three tips are:
- take your breaks. Use them to do laundry, dinner prep, pop out and grab groceries (unless you are quarantined), check the mail, walk around the block, make the bed.... whatever, just shift your focus and do something else
- set your boundaries. Working from home does not mean you need to work 24/7. At the end of your day, stop and walk away.
- lay in a stock of healthy snacks, because you will snack lol

Lol, Shaz. I've been here all the time, just lurking quietly/moderating! It's been a really crazy start to the year for me even before the pandemic. Been trying to get into teaching in a new school building/modern learning environment. Now we have to figure out how to teach when there's no kids in it!
@trudijoy I caption phonecalls for the deaf and hearing impaired. Our service is deemed essential by the government so I'll be expecting to work right the way through. It is nice to have that part of normality amid this crisis and all the news broadcasts.
Hey all, quick query. So I've been cutting down on my exposure to the news as i do get a bit anxious about it all. Does anyone have any recommendations for songs or albums I could listen to? Was listening to music yesterday and find it quite soothing at work. Besides which I thought it would be kind of cool to see what other people are interested in.
@MareeB: I went to my local fresh choice yesterday after work and there was absolutely no bread! One lady was nutting off while the rest of us had a blank expression on our faces. Its definitely different.

I love music and love cranking up some sounds!
My music tastes are varied but I do love my metal like rage against the machine, SOAD, Slipknot, Metallica etc. But I also like older bands like Creedence Clearwater, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Janis Joplin. I also love hearing a great song on a movie then finding it and adding to my playlists! There's a great song calles Sail by Awolnation but Devildriver does a great version of it. Passenger has some great songs, I love let her go because it was my nanas funeral song and Sarah McLaughlins "Angel'. Sorry I could go for hours but I shall stop lmao

@tabucutie, I've been listening to a lot of acoustic covers this week. I work from home and have clients popping in, so I needed to try find a style of music that wouldn't put my clients to sleep, but would still be relaxing and appeal to everyone (it's so hard to find music that covers all tastes, so far the acoustic covers seem to be popular and no one has been offended by it).
Work from home....if only! Being in retail it is just not possible for me. Husband has worked the odd day or two at home, lucky guy!.
I work at Chemist Warehouse so if you can imagine your local supermarket at rush hour, well that's been my week this week. Absolute bedlam, we have sold out of masks about 6 weeks ago, I get asked probably 50 -60 times a day. Hand sanitizer has been in and out of stock on a daily basis, timing is everything. Our dispensary is ridiculously busy, and everyone is working so, so hard. We have had a mix of customers, with most being patient but some think they need everything now and are angry that we have no stock or have had to limit quantities. Needless to say it have been wine night every night this week. Stay safe ladies.

Thanks for all the songs and artist recommendations, I'll be listening to these today.
@trudijoy Yup it's a rewarding job, very busy of late. Sure does make the work day faster.
@First Lady thanks! Its nice to be appreciated :)
@Kimrose: can only imagine how busy it's been for you. Hope you get some good downtime when you're not working.

I also work in retail and it's been crazy, some people are being greedy which isn't fair to everyone particularly the aged who do their regular shop and can't get what they would normally purchase. It puts staff under stress having to work extra hours and days to keep up with the demand. Some people are even buying chest freezers. I don't know how some of them would've coped if there was another big quake.
Here's hoping that the latest today about staying home if you are immuno compromised, over 70 or have a medical condition helps those who shouldn't be at work realise that they need to stay home ti be safe.
i made the call a week ago, and it was such a relief to know that my risk is less now despite having a thyroid condition, and history of lung issues and asthma

Yeap, I've been told to work from home until I see my specialist on Thursday to further assess my risk due to a chronic respiratory illness. It's a huge relief as I work in a large school. I'm going to be one of the first to try out this teaching from home business that all schools are busily preparing for right now.
@Aboutface: I totally agree with you.
I think people are not thinking of those shopping after them, especially the elderlies. But i haven't seen people in nz shopping trollies of toilet paper yet, and limits are now in place, so i think we are quite ok compared to other countries when they first had this. I guess people are stocking up so they wont need to come out for a few weeks =D. I usually shop early in the mornings... surprised i am no longer the only few early shoppers around now.
Oh well, life goes on despite all this. Hopefully it dies down soon... where everything goes back to normal.

Tabucutie, what an amazing job you do!
As for music, I mostly listen to house music, especially from the 90s. I've been blasting the old tunes from back in the day for the last couple of weeks and remembering all the good times. Life seemed so much simpler then! This morning, Gok Wan did a 'virtual rave' on Instagram playing 90s bangers and it was awesome! My friend in the uk who I used to go clubbing with was also playing it so we danced together, 12,000 miles apart! There's some really great connections happening right now. I'm now using my screen time to connect with others rather than read news/false news.

Oh this week has been absolute madness for me lol Just finished my sixth shift today at my supermarket .
I was bummed I missed my concert this weekend . I'm used to being social on weekends. It's a change for me to isolate myself from friends and extended family.
I feel relieved to be home to wind down with a wine . Back to the madness tommorow lol

Thanks @soozie. It's been a solid job for just over the last 7 years but wow is it getting super busy at the moment. I suppose it's due to self isolation and there is a lot more time for talk lol. Glad to be having a couple days off though. House music, there are a couple of OG tracks but I don't know what they are called, I know I like them though. I think it's great that even though the world is in isolation, quarantine and social distancing that connections are being made. I really enjoy seeing the clips of what people are getting up to around the world. Makes it a bit lighthearted you know? It's nice to see people still coming together in a way that they can.
@Macs: Are supermarkets crazy atm where you are? I've been avoiding mine but it is pay week so will make the effort to get in and get out. Hopefully with no problems.

Only just tuned into this thread because yep it's been a super stressful time and haven't been able to get my BR fix. I'm sort of dreading the next 4 weeks a little bit, I'd just started to settle in Auckland and having the people around me introducing me to what it had to offer was a huge part of that. I'm a very social person so this lockdown all sounds a bit intimidating (but I totally support why it's being done. We'll all breathe a huge sigh of relief when we get on top of this virus). Stay safe ladies and may we all be able to avoid the supermarket crazy's haha.
@tabucutie I open our store at 7am our supermarket car park is full with ques . It was me on my own till 8am last week . Finally my boss has added extra people to help me . Two more shifts till my day off . I feel knackered already .
My partner is now stay at home parent with our kids . His work is off for four weeks . So I guess I'm the main worker for now .
