I think scars are cool because there's always a story behind them, usually something significant that has happened in your life regardless of how you feel about the scar.. I have a big one on the palm of my hand it's about 1.5 inches long 5mm thick at the widest point.. I got that scar out of being an impatient & head-strong child. when I was 6yrs old I wanted to fly my kite and I was waiting for my dad to help me, he was taking AGES so I decided to go for it myself. After a wind-storm there as all kind of debris laying around everyhere and I tripped and fell on a piece of iron roofing sheet, hence the scar, the wound was glued.
One I have that I hate is a "smiley" on my arm, done with a lighter. That happened when I was 13 as the ring-leader of my group of riends decided that we should bear a mark to unite us.
The best scars grace my belly, although barely noticeable now, they tell the tale of carrying a child or 9 months.
what are the stories behind your scars?

Stories behind scars?

I've always thought that too - scars show strength of character, because you got through something to leave that scar.
I have a few - 2 chicken pox ones (when you have chicken pox as an adult I think you're allowed to be proud of them hehe) 1 from my eyebrow being pierced - which I would love to have done again, but feel like I'm too old. I also have a C-section scar. The only scar I'm not that fond of is the one on the back of my neck, it was where I had an icky birth mark removed. It's not even the birthmark removal that bothers me - its that I had stitches at the same time as my then boyfriend and we went on about it being our special thing, and now when I think of it I'm like, "Ugh, HIM" hehe
My favourite scar is one on my knee which I got 22 years ago when my Dad rang us at my Grandparents to tell us that my brother had been born and their silly cat got such a huge fright from the phone ringing it gouged my knee open.
I have others too...but my post is already a novel lol

Im covered in stretch marks, from 4 children and losing/gaining weight in general. I have a little one on my thumb, like a 1cm cut mark but I have no idea what from but has been there for years.
I have a rather large one on my left thigh just abve my knee. When I was 11 or 12, I went on school camp and on a flying fox. The rope that was supposed to trail behind it, somehow got wrapped around my leg so of course half way along the ride it pulled tight on my leg and gave me massve rope burn. Im 29 now, so I guess that scar isnt going anywhere!
I also have a faint line on my ankle from when I was doing roly polys on my bed and cut it on my drawers and then had to get stitches. Oh and my knees are scarred from falling off my bike heaps as a kid.
lol, basically im just 1 big scar!

I have a (10cm) scar on the back of my thigh - when I was 6 I got out of the bath and ran to the toilet all wet and slipped off and landed on a broken floor tile. I have another on my middle finger from yr 6 when all the girls were pushing the classroom door open and the boys were pushing it closed- my fingers ended up getting caught in the door. I still have numbness in that finger, but I mainly remember how much we were in love with the boys of that class!
I have 3 + scars, not the most interesting of stories though apart from the last.
Scar 1 - I have a tiny one right in the middle of my forehead near my temple because I got chicken pox when I was a wee one (hard to imagine I was actually little now thinking about it lol) and I kept picking it, Mum told me not to, but well kids will be kids right.
Scar 2 - A 3cm one on my right arm. We had a really really old couch back when I was living in the UK and the spring had gone on it and had broken off. Little did I know that when I went to grab a toy underneath it that it was there, my arm came into contact with it and ouch, a scar was born lol. This one I remember as clear as day, must have been about 6 or 7.
Scar 3- A deep one on my left hand, and this was a silly simple Sarah moment lol. I was cutting a cheesecake with a sharp knife (the stories I could tell you about me and knives, but I won't bore you as this post is probably already doing that lol). Anyway my Sister called my name and says "Watch what you're doing with that knife" and I'm like "Yeah Yeah I'm fine" turned around (yep you know whats coming now don't you lol) and lodged it right into my hand. This was a horrible one, happened when I was a teenager and it actually hit bone and you could see it, had to get stitches at the hospital ba ha ha, what a muppet.
+ Scars - the best scars ever and these are the only ones I'll be proud of - my tiger stripes from my 3 munchkins.
So, you all still awake after reading that ha ha ha xxx

Haha, Ringfamily, the second story made me laugh, so relatable lusting over boys in school.
I've got one right next to the outer corner of my eye, I was making my top bunk as a child and it broke, so I fell through and that part of my face caught on a nail. Thankfully it was my face and not my eye, hoorah! Mum took me to all you can eat Pizza Hut after getting it glued back together, so it was a good day for me.

I have that many scars I have asked numerous times for a zip and a tap to be inserted into me. 10 are from operations. The 2 biggest ones go down my spine to my bottom.
This is why I am always on the look out for that product that will get rid of scars and stretch marks. I think I may have finally found the product. Fingers and scars crossed!

Cool thread! I didn't think I had that many scars but when I think about it I do have a few.
One under my eye from when my cat scratched me when I was a baby.
A scar on my left thumb from when I used to suck my thumb where my teeth would rest.
Adult Chicken pox scars... a couple on my face. I just couldn't help but scratch. I don't know how kids do it.

I've got a few scars as I was an awkward clumsy child, my poor mum lol. I have one on my eyebrow where I fell off a climbing frame onto some broken glass (yes ahhh good old council estate parks in the UK good times!) Another on my middle left finger that runs from my nail to knuckle which was from helping out in the garden with my mum and got attacked by a rose bush stupid I know but it took 4 stitches, hence my hatred of roses in the garden (love receive them cut though) Then my biggest one runs around my ankle bone on my left foot from where I shattered my ankle playing long jump in the rain at around 11 years old, they had to break and reset my ankle as my ankle was facing the wrong way after I broke it (gag I know it even gives me shivers) got dozen of stitches after they rebuilt the area around the bone. If we were talking broken bones that is a whole novel of incidents, like I said I was so damn clumsy growing up lol
I can tell by everyone's comments that we're absolutely not supposed to be blemish free - learning leaves it's marks on us!
I have a big scar on my arm from having a tattoo cut out (by a dermatologist - before laser was available), and a large one on my leg where I had MRSA (flesh eating disease). Also horrid stretch marks from losing and gaining weight (babies, illness, yoyo dieting..)

Interesting reading your grils stories about your scars. I too have a few......
- A scar in the shape of a W on my face from when i was four. I climbed on a tv and fell off cutting my face on the sharp bunny ear arial on the top.
- A scar on my knee from running in my dad scuffs which were too big and falling on the road
- A scar on my scalp from when I as five I fell out a window and hit my head on jagged bricks putting me in a coma for a bit
- A scar on my thigh from a bike accidnet when I was fifteen
- Numerous little scars down my arms, back and my front from being in an abusive relationship
- My c-section scar which is my biggest and most worth it scar.

Kirsty I didn't know they cut tattoos out before laser either! Man that must have been painful Mareebros - and flesh eating disease, holy smokes that would have been horrific!
I have a lot of scars and all of them are uninteresting except for 2 - on my knee where I was riding a pony and took off on me and fell over on the road (it was wet), and I had a hole taken out of my knee. The other one - which I think is funny but others may not, is one night years ago my close friend and I were talking about a butcher knife I had bought. I was showing it off to him and we got into an argument about how sharp it was. He was saying it was blunt and I disagreed. Anyway, I jokingly held my arm out to him and told him to test how blunt it was - I didn't think he would do it. But he did and I needed stitches lol. He felt awful about it but I was happy I won the argument. It probably sounds warped but when I look at that scar it makes me smile because - aside from him feeling awful for hurting me, it was a fun night.

This is so freaky. I was looking in the mirror this morning getting annoyed a how a scar on my face can make my lipstick application look lop sided!
So I have one scar which is right under my bottom lip and its shaped exactly like the bottom of my top two front teeth. I can't remember the exact circumstances around this, but it involved a skateboard, a very steep driveway and a pole in a carport and a fairly decent smack in the head.
I also have a scar on the bottom of my chin. I fell down some stairs as a toddler and cut it open. Moral of the story - wait for parents before going for a walk to see the neighbours dog.
There is also a scar on my ankle, exactly the same size as the jaw of a chihuahua. Horrid thing got me as I was walking home from school.
Oh, I also have a scar just above my left eye from where I had a skin discolouration cut out. They thought it might have been a skin cancer as it appeared quickly over the space of a couple of months, but fortunately it wasn't. I did end up having to go to my Grandmothers funeral with a black eye and stitches. Yay for that good look!
My final scar is a collection of three on my right knee from my patella re-alignment surgery last year. I have a really long one, which makes the area around it numb, plus a couple of other small incision holes around my knee cap. This is the most visible scar of all if I chose to wear shorts/skirts etc, so you usually won't find me in either. I haven't tried any product to reduce the appearence of it because my knee is being opened up again in December when they remove the screws that are holding the tendon in its new spot. Probably next year I'll look at doing something to reduce the appearance of the main scar. It's about 7cm long so really quite noticeable! And at least the surgeon will reopen my knee using the scar so that I'm not looking even more cut up.
There is some scar tissue on the backs of my earlobes and belly button though from when the piercings I had done in high school got infected. Although my doctor suggested at the time that the three got infected that I was probably allergic to the metal used (and so I was!)

I have a lot of tiny scars that I aquired over the course of my childhood but have no idea what I did to get them. Other than that I have two tiny scars on my knee from two minor biking accidents and lots of stretch marks that I also don't know the reason for (I haven't gained or lost a lot of weight ever). So most of my scars are mysteries.
Wow really
I have numerous scars on my body the most significant and life changing scars I have are the ones on my face. I'm sure I've raved on about cosmetic surgery because of these scars. God didn't make me like this.
When I was 9 I was riding a nifty fifty on the lane where my family homestead is. So it's an approximately a 1.5km lane made of gravel that comes off the main highway but connects approximately 5 homes to their driveways and the main road. My mother was born and raised there with her 7 siblings and my grandmother actually owned the whole thing well she married my grand father by arranged marriage and he was land wealthy he died at 38 and left my grandmother a widow of 8 kids so she sold a bit of land to raise her children my mum aunties and uncles. Anyway back to the scars. I don't actually know what happened as I was knocked out. But I had been riding the scooter up and down the lane with the neighbour's kids and somewhere I went airborne and woke up in a ambulance. 10 days later I was discharged from hospital but hadn't seen myself in the mirror they never showed me. But when I saw myself it was like a horror scene. Never seen anything like it raw tissue scars on my eye cheek lips nose ear and forehead. Literally gross. I couldn't see myself in the mirror. I had a few more corrective surgeries later on about at form 2 and 3 but it wasn't really anything significant. Basically half my face was cut up ( how can that happen? !) I struggled with esteem all my life since this accident but I know the struggles made me a character of resilience. I have a huge dark scar on my right eyelid scratch marks on my right cheek a huge line aswell a smaller nostril and uneven lip plus a scar where my ear was detached but got saved and reattached. Grrr I know I go on sorry. Anyway out of all these scars none were life damaging such as no bones were broken no sight was impaired and no hearing loss. God was definitely present for me to only be skin deep hurt. After the accident I continued to remove stones from my forehead cos the surgeons had left some behind. They reckon a bucket was filled from my operation.
also have scars on my face from being beaten up by Males and 1 other from a boil on my forehead gross right?
my legs have more from other accidents including domestics and my right thumb has a scar from a accident where my cartilage snapped and I was buttoned literally a button was there to repair the damage I still don't have full use of the the area and do get strain if using the thumb repeatedly but this doesn't stop me txtng and writing huge novel like comments.I'm now in my 38th year so 28 years post accident and I want cosmetic surgery

Oh KirstyJ thanks for reading that novel. And thanks for your lovely comment. Yip I have scars actually when not in make up,people will query what's wrong with me?, but that's my face un made lol. The scars I guess have become me but they're still foreign... They've faded over time but the lid has still got a discolouration it's darker then my actual skin tone.
Amazing person you are for sharing your story k3r1pakai
through reading it (I don't mind a good novel) I felt for you and for your family to have witnessed your pain and suffering. You sound like and amazing and strong woman and you inner beauty radiates from within.
I know you'll look at your scars and see how far you have come, and dream of a time where you aren't reminded of the pain you have been through.

I have so many scars it's ridiculous. Scars on both knees and the tops of both feet jumping off a tramp into tall grass and there was broken glass. 2 c section scars. A scar that runs down the outside of my little finger and on the back of my neck from a pane of glass falling out of a window and cutting me. Scars from having moles removed and scars from piercings
Scars tell incredible and some times sad stories, the scar on your hand sends chills down my spine! I know of a few people that also has smiley scars.
My body is covered in stretchmarks, at least 60% of my body, all over my back, stomach, bad ones on boobs, arms, legs. I have quite a few scars but the major ones are:
1: Car accident- 2 open head gashes, 4-5 inches long
2: Key hole surgery
Ong your such a brave, BRAVE lady, I admire you so much with everything you have gone thru xxx

Trudi my surgeon asked how I got over the first spinal fusion. I said learnt how to bake and cook. The 2nd op I just had he told me I needed to get back in the kitchen to learn to stand again for long periods and do what I enjoy. My friends say my food tastes good, I throw a few photos on ig and fb. A br girl tagged me in the come dine with me application so I applied. Now that will show my surgeon I'm taking him seriously!
Lutece it's cause I have amazing friends supporting me. Most of them are online ones. I'll be right! :D

Hey Mareeboos :) the tattoo cut out my mum has had that done and as a kid we always asked what happened as she has a raised scar tissue that's shiney from the removal. I think I'd go for laser over cut outs if I'd ever consider removing my tatts but I don't think that would ever happen since I want more lol.... I have keloid scar tissue rather when I scar it grows into a bump I forgot to mention other scars from the same accident that are raised elsewhere on my body. I knew I had taken up quite a bit with the comment anyhow.but yeah its a gross thing where the scars raising above the skin and is not flat so I feel for people who have this condition upon scarring....
Awesome hearing all your ladies scar experiences. Marcel I have a smiley face scar too on my left hand. Mine didnt quite go well its just a round scar. I've had key hole surgery as well when I had goul stones. I got round scar on my left shoulder from getting in street fight, stab wound. Another on my right leg from getting in a fight with my cousin at a young age. I've heaps of stretch marks all over arms, legs, body, from when I fell pregnant with my first child. Keri your are an amazing survivor.
I have a scar on my left shin that I got from falling in a concrete rectangle drain because some "friends" decided it would be funny to trick me into walking in to it when I was about 15. It was so sore but I didn't cry, I was more pxssed off than anything. To this day it has no feeling in it lol. I also have a scare from an eyebrow peircing I accidentally ripped out while walking home slightly intoxicated (thankfully I didn't feel it) It was raining and I wiped the rain off my face, the peircing caught on my ring and it ripped it right out. I remember looking at the bar caught in my ring and thinking "O look at that... I just ripped my bar out... HAHAHAHA!!!" -.- iiiiiiiiiiidiot! lol
